Back to School, Back to Giving

Back to School month is approaching, and this year, COVID-19 has created an unprecedented demand for food, clothing and other basic needs. At the same time, social distancing requirements make the process of meeting those needs more challenging. Finding new, safe ways to collect and provide resources has become essential.

We love giving back to our community. While we continue to learn to live with COVID-19, we have been thinking about how we can still provide essential items to those who need us most.

Our friends at Cradles to Crayons Philadelphia are kicking off a new pilot program called KidPack Direct. This program matches you with a child in the Philadelphia region and enables you and your family to donate high-quality, gently used clothing that will help that child feel safe, confident, and valued.

Cradles to Crayons is a nonprofit that provides essentials items, backpacks and school supplies, toys, art supplies, hygiene items, and safety items to children who come from low-income families and/or homeless. These essential items are provided to children in need for free. Want to get involved? Check your closets for clothing you have to donate, and sign up to give! See below to learn more about the process of the new pilot program, called KidsPack Direct.

The process is so simple.

Did you know that Philadelphia is the nation’s poorest big city with over 300,000 children living in poverty across the region? Families living in poverty struggle to pay for rent and groceries and simply cannot afford anything beyond that. Basic items for their children, including clothing, shoes, and a winter coats—are not possible. However, you can make a difference. If you are interested in some ways to get involved with this wonderful organization, there are so many different ways to make an impact!

Volunteer: Cradles to Crayons accepts thousands of volunteers at The Giving Factory. There, people work together to help change the lives of the children we serve. Volunteer service takes place in two-hour hands-on shift where volunteers inspect, sort, and package KidPacks to get them ready for distribution.

Fund the Cause: Financial support from companies, families, and individuals make a difference. To put it into perspective, a gift of $33 will help impact one child in need.

Donate Items: Now is the time to clean out your closets at home for clothing in good condition, gently used shoes, books, backpacks, and toys that have been outgrown. By donating these items to Cradles to Crayons, you can be reassured that they will be gifted to children in Philadelphia in desperate need of essentials, and who will be so grateful to receive them.

You can make a difference. Give back to the greater good of the community, with the Cradles to Crayon’s new KidsPack Direct Program. Click here to learn more.
